Rs.100 vs Rs. 70 - A Short Story
Rs.100 vs Rs. 70
"See, how Rs. 70 is greater!", laughed Rashiklal. He was a shop-owner in the village Tasarpur. He dealt in stationery items. The shop was his only earning source and it provided him enough to meet his family needs.
Rashiklal's family consisted of his parents, his wife Rama, his two daughters - Mina and Rina. His parents were aged and could not to anything. They were under medication for old age problems. Rama was a home-maker. Mina and Rina were reading in Class V and VII respectively in the village high school, namely Radhakanta High School. Rashiklal was able to meet all his family expenses for his shop. It was running well.
Sumit also lived in Tasarpur village. He worked in other state and once or twice in a year he would come at home to see his family. From childhood Sumit and Rashiklal were friends. When Sumit would come to the village, he passed his whole day at Rashiklal's shop. They had a lot to talk, but every time they must mention the funny incident that happened to them in childhood.
The incident was that one day they went to the agricultural field that were 10 minutes walk from their village. They wanted to eat green gram. So, they pulled out a bunch of gram plants and hid them under their shirts. But the land owner changed them and so they ran breathlessly. All the plants fell on the land. They ran until they reached their village. It was a memorable incident in their life. They cherished that incident.
Once Sumit came home on the occasion of Kalipuja. As usual Sumit met Rashiklal at his shop.During conversation suddenly Rashiklal asked Sumit, "Tell me l, which is greater Rs.100/- or Rs. 70/-?" Sumit said, "Everyone can knows it, even a child can answer this question." Rashiklal said, "You can't." Sumit just laughed. Then Rashiklal asked him to answer. Sumit said, Rs.100/- is greater." Rashiklal said, "No." Sumit got surprised and asked how. Rashiklal said that once a dog died in front of his shop. He searched for a man to remove that, but could not. Then he offered to some rickshaw-pullers Rs.100/- to remove the dead dog. But they did not agree. Two days passed and the dog started to emit bad smell. People started to avoid his shop and his selling came down. He fell into great trouble. Then he offered those rickshaw-pullers a bear bottle if they removed the dead dog. They promptly did that. The bear bottle cost me Rs.70/-. Rashiklal said, "See how Rs.70/- is greater!"
