Home vs House - A Short Story
Home vs House
"My home has turned into a house", said Tipathi. He said this to his friend Rajashi. Both grew up together in the village Tataphuli. It was a medium size village with nearly 900 people of different castes and professions. But there was one thing common among the villagers - they loved their village. Like all other villages jealousy, quarrels, superstitions dwelt there. In spite of that the villagers were happy. The children were the most happy because there were plenty of playing places, like fields, gardens, temples, ponds etc.
Both Tipathi and Rajashi played a lot with other children in their childhood. They were the best friends. Tipathi's father was a labourer. His family consisted of his parents, his grandmother, his two brothers and a sister. On the other hand, Rajashi lived with his parents. He was the only child. Both of them read in the nearby school.
Tipathi was good in education while Rajashi was not so good. So, after high school education, Rajashi left education and started running his father's grocery shop. Tipathi after his village school education enrolled himself in a college. They seldom got time to converse. After college education, Tipathi got service in the local BDO office. His family condition improved - his sister got married, his brothers after leaving school education were working in the stores - a Happy Family. Tipathi was the family favourite as he bore the whole expenses of the family. For that he did not get any money for personal pleasure. Still he was happy seeing others' happiness.
The condition changed after his marriage. After marriage, Tipathi told everyone that he could not spend all for his family as he needed to save for his own future. His two brothers also should bear a share of the expenditure. That enraged all. None could protest, but protest started in behaviour. His brothers, even his parents, started to abuse Tipathi and his wife. Taunts were the often used matter. His mother put the whole work-load on his wife.
Day by day the situation worsened. The behaviour became unbearable. So, one day Tipathi decided to leave his home. He took a one room house in the town on rent. His wife and he started living there. There was no protest as he used to send money for his parents.
Days passed. One day Rajashi had to go to the BDO office for some work. There he met Tipathi. During that conversation Rajashi asked Tipathi, "Why he was living in a rental house?" Tipathi did not tell everything but replied, "My home has turned and into a house."
