A Blessing - A Short Story
A Blessing
"Yes, it is a blessing.", said Namaya to Singra. Both of them lived in the village Titthukoti. It was large village, nearly 68 km away from the town Lepak. The only means to go to the town Lepak from Titthukoti was wretched road. It was wretched because of the potholes, turns, low maintenance, in short unplayable. That was why only a few vehicles would ply over it and journey was so pathetic.
The villagers usually avoided the town journey if they could. In that village Namaya lived with her family - her parents and two brothers. She was good in education. On the other hand, Singra was a boy of 14 years and lived with his large joint family. They had great agricultural land and his father would run a grocery shop. So, their financial condition was good and that created a sense of satisfaction in Singra. Singra was also reading with Namaya, but he was satisfied with his life. That was why, he did not have any ambition in life. He thought of joining their grocery shop. But a Namaya's father Asruti was a roadside hawker, she sas poverty and that made her ambitious. She thought of becoming very rich, but she did not know the way.
Anyway time was passing by. After local secondary school Singra left his education and joined his father's business, while Namaya took admission in a school, nearly 10 km away. Her father did not allow her to stop study. Besides study, started her search for earning money. A significant development also took place. The government started satellite-based network service. In school Sabi sir took a class on network and how it could be used to earn money. She felt herself lucky for being present. She came to know what network was and how that could be used to earn money.
After that class, Namaya started saving money in all possible ways. She started going to school on foot instead of rickshaw, avoided tiffin etc. Thus she saved 300 Thaku with which she bought a cell phone. Then she started learning of investigation from online sites. After a few loses, she earned enough money. Within 2 years, she earned one lakh Thaku and became the richest person in the village. Rewards started coming from all sides. Her family became happy. Namaya became a well-known name in the district. The government not only repaired the road from Titthukoti to Lepak, but also made that a highway.
Almost all day people came to meet her. One day Singra came to her and while talking he said "So, the network changed your life." Namaya replied, "Yes, it is a blessing."
