Fruitless Work - A Short Story


    "Why waste time in fruitless work", asked Kamal master to Pitai. Both Kamal master and Pitai lived in the village Rahimpur. It is now a large village with 5000 plus population. There was not any playground, garden even pleasing atmosphere. 


   But 10 years before the situation was different. It was a happy village. Anyway, the villagers were divided into three sections - literate, namely literate and illiterate. The namely literate section came from the outside and were the most dangerous section. They destroyed the peaceful atmosphere of the village. They robbed the village of its glory. The election period was the most talked about time. The candidates engaged in it used its benefit. Goods, money, bear etc. the election gimmicks.


   The literate section did not have any headache with them, but the namely literate and illiterate sections felt the warmth of the election. Pitai belonged to the illiterate section. He was a labourer. The social condition of did not concern him. Earning meals for his family was his main concern. His family consisted of his parents, wife and two daughters.


    On the other hand, Kamal Sibaji was a school teacher. He taught in the village government school and was known as Kamal master. His family belonged to the literate section. They kept watch on the social condition. So, the election did not matter to them but the candidate who filed in nomination mattered. 


    A few days later, Panchayat election was declared. Kamal master knew the candidates. He was not concerned with election, but social condition. The day of casting vote came. Kamal master was going to cast his vote. On the way he met Pitai. Kamal master knew him as he used to call Pitai for some work. Then Pitai asked him if he would give to Jamin Party candidate. Kamal got surprised and asked Pitai to cast vote for any candidate but not Jamin Party candidate. Then Kamal master went to cast vote but advised Pitai, "Why waste time in fruitless work."

 ফেয়ারওয়েল নমস্কার স্যার, নমস্কার!  ব্যথিত হৃদয়ে চিত্ত মম  আজ করে হাহাকার!  নমস্কার স্যার, নমস্কার! দুর্দিনে আপনি ছিলেন, ছিলেন আমার পাশে  সেই সময়ের ব্যথা যেন, এখনো ধেয়ে আসে!  এই ধরায় এমন মানুষ বারবার কি আসে,  আপনি ছিলেন আমার পাশে! ছিল আমার কিছু দোষ  যেগুলো আপনি গেছেন এড়িয়ে,  আমার আত্মসম্মান আমায়  দিয়েছেন আপনি ফিরিয়ে! করেছি কাজ অনেক জায়গায়  আসেনি সেরকম কোনদিন,  বড় যতই হই আমি  রইবো চিরদিন আপনার অধীন! আপনি আমায় ভুলে গেছেন,  আসেনা যেন এমন দিন,  এই স্কুলে রইল আপনার  আমন্ত্রণ চিরদিন! সুখে থাকুন, ভালো থাকুন  রইলো এই প্রার্থনা আমার,  ভালোভাবে কাটে যেন  অবশিষ্ট সময় আপনার! পরুণ পরবর্তী কবিতা (হে সৃষ্টিকর্তা) পরুণ পূর্ববর্তী কবিতা ( ভালো মানুষ)

  Social Service  It is our duty  To practise charity,  To be in the society.  The more we give  The more we get,  It is the universal truth  Never forget! Never forget!  we need to add value  To our existence,  Only then we can get  Much much more happiness.  The only way is to give  To help others to survive, So keep a portion of your earning  To help a fellow human-being.   See how much money  You waste, In empty idol worship!  God will be much happy  If you help your society!  What will be the use of religion  If your own local people  Remain hungry and suffering from frustration!  First help them to learn,  Then if you can  Give them other assistance  You will find great inner happiness  Worthy will be your existence.   বিদ্যাসাগর বাংলার ভূমিতে নিয়েছিলেন জন্ম  সকলে আমরা চিনি তাকে  বিদ্যাসাগর নামেতে!  ছোট্ট থেকেই ছিলেন মেধাবী  গর্ব আমাদের, তিনি বঙ্গবাসী।  পশ্চিম মেদিনীপুর জেলার বীরসিংহ গ্রামেতে  জন্ম নিয়েছিলেন তিনি, গোড়া ব্রাহ্মণ পরিবারেতে,  তবে তিনি ছিলেন না বিশ্বাসী ঈশ্বরে  মন তার সর্বদা, নিবেদিত পড়াশোনাতে,  পড়াশোনার জোড়েই তিনি হয়েছিলেন মহান পারেনি দারিদ্রতা তাকে হার মানাতে! যে কলেজে পড়াশোনা করেছিলেন  সেই কলেজেরই তিনি অধ্যাপক হয়েছিলেন।  সমাজ সংস্কারেও তার অদম্য দান  নারী কল্যাণ, সমাজ সংস্কার, শিক্ষা প্রসার  ইত্যাদিতে আছে তার বহু অবদান।  পড়াশোনার দৌলতেই তিনি হয়েছিলেন উত্তম পুরুষ  রবীন্দ্রনাথ বলেছেন, বিদ্যাসাগর ছিলেন  প্রকৃত অর্থেই মানুষ!  মানব সমাজের উন্নতিই ছিল তার একমাত্র লক্ষ্য  আজকের এই অনুষ্ঠান তারই সাক্ষ্য!   পড়ুন পরবর্তী কবিতা (দোকানদার) পড়ুন পূর্ববর্তী কবিতা (প্রায়শ্চিত্ত)

Greed - A Short Story

  Greed     "Money matters", said Balakrishnan. Balakrishnan was a farmer who lived in Pattali village. The village comprised of many castes, like tikku, pela, nima, saga etc. Among them tikku and pela were the dominant castes. The Tikkus liked the politics. Almost all the political posts were held by them. On the other hand, pelas were the business-class. They disliked politics as it involved corrupt practices. But in reality, they did not get opportunity to enter politics. The nimas and sagas were minority classes and were mainly involved in wage-works.           Balakrishnan belonged to the saga caste, Tirumala belonged to nima, while Nata and Bati belonged to tikku and pela castes respectively. Bati was a businessman. He would run a large store-business. Having familiar with the business techniques from childhood, Bati knew how to make profit in business. His income grew day by day. But as his business grew so also his greed.    ...

  Something Special   I felt dizzy,  I felt frustrated,  I did not like the happenings,  Suddenly it click to my mind  There is something special in me!  My mind works firster and better  It can solve complex matter,  I need to give it time  I have potential to achieve great fame!   I made busy schedule  No time to thinking,  Now, I have to connect my mind and soul  To become a super-being.  My mind has special power  But it needs time to calm  Then I can be clear of the idea That will help me to climb  To that position  Which is my dream, my ambition! I ignored smart work  And believed in hard-work,  So my progress was little  Today I realised that.  My mind has special power  If I can use its potential  I can attain that special  Which can give me something  And I will be a super-being.
